Munchausen, the Machinery of the Imagination

Text and stage direction
Hugo Bélanger

If it’s crazy, that means it’s the right way.

Tout à Trac invites you to dive into the unpredictable labyrinth that is the imagination of the biggest dreamer the universe has ever known: The Baron of Munchausen.

This great raconteur is the worthy descendant of both Don Quixote and Capitan of the commedia dell’arte. He borrows from his great cousin Cyrano as he incarnates the quintessence of the power to dream. The Baron’s stories are supernatural, extravagant, impossible and foolish. Yet listening to his tales, you can’t help but allow yourself to be enthralled by his somewhat insane ideas and overcome by the desire to believe even his most preposterous feats.

Through the Baron’s incredible tales, Tout à Trac pays tribute to Galimard et fils, a distinguished but somewhat unknown theatre company. For almost 200 years, the Galimard family presented the Baron of Munhchausen’s adventures on stage with the theatrical mechanics of the XVIIIth century.

You are transported to the center of the Earth; you ride with the Baron on a canon ball and are immersed 20,000 leagues under the sea. And as the Baron is not a man to brag about impossibilities, everything he says is absolutely true and accurate!

Sceptics will be mystified!
